Tip: There are great views of the Boston skyline from Peter’s Hill, located at the southern portion of the arboretum. Arnold Arboretum is a beautiful escape from the city congestion: a place to stroll, relax, and take in the sights and sounds of nature. As you tour the beautiful grounds, you will be able to explore over 14,000 plants from around the world. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the Boston area to take a relaxing walk. ![]() The beautiful Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University is America’s oldest public arboretum. Although Bunker can be easily accessed from the trail, the trail itself is an all day exhausting experience! Adding an intense climb after a 3 mile walk may not the best idea for everyone. Tip: If you are not in the best of shape, plan your climb as a separate experience from the trail. Be sure to bring your camera to take advantage of the best view of the city. Your legs may be burning, however, your eyes will be enjoying the sky high view. After climbing up seemingly endless staircases, picturesque views of the city dominate the sky. Don’t worry – your hard effort will pay off. Climbing the 294 steps to the top is a challenging, yet exhilarating experience. Your Boston experience is not complete until you climb to the top of the Bunker Hill Monument. Tip: Visit during October and take a fall foliage chairlift ride at the Blue Hills Ski area. Over 100 trails and varied terrain will excite both the beginning and advanced hiker. Hiking through the heavily wooded trails at Blue Hills is so peaceful and relaxing that you will forget you are anywhere near a big city.
